The name pretty much says it all with this cook off. The rules are simple: participants grill meat from animals that they have killed themselves. Some examples from previous years include deer, rabbit and wild boar. All meat must be properly skinned and dressed before it is brought to the cook off and no road kill can be used for the 'Killed It' category.
There is a separate category called 'Brought It' for those who would rather buy meat to cook. The 'Grew It' category is for participants who enter vegetables or side dishes that do not contain meat. Last year, the cook off expanded this year to include a new category - 'Baked It'. Participants in this category can enter an item baked from scratch, just like grandma used to make, in a Dutch oven or over an open flame. A prize is also given for overall showmanship, so even if you don't win in one of the categories you can still take home a prize.
Those interested in a round of Washers, Horse Shoes or Dummy Roping are invited to to try their hand and see how they measure up. Team registration forms are available online at ag.txstate.edu or in Agriculture Building, Room #206. Those interested in participating can call Event Captain, Misty May at 512-245-3329 or 512-245-2130 for details or request information at mm1356@txstate.edu.
