Student Organizations
Students in the Department of Agricultural Sciences have countless opportunities to become actively involved in campus organizations. Students organizations develop leadership skills, allow students to meet others with similar interests, expand skill sets, and build their career goals, professional networks, and job readiness. Student activities in the department also allow the opportunity to further develop a personal relationship with faculty members.

Bobcat Blend Composting

Bobcat Blend is a faculty managed, student-run and grant-supported research and teaching-oriented waste management campus composting program at Texas State University. The goals of the organization are to teach students, faculty and staff through daily operations and development of habits the environmental, economic, and intrinsic values of composting, in the cafeterias and in the classrooms, labs and landscapes on campus. We are currently accepting volunteers to be a part of our award-winning team. Please contact us anytime!
Animal Science Club

The Texas State University Animal Science Club is a volunteer based organization that provides students with opportunities in volunteering within the University as well as throughout the community. The Club is open to all majors and provides students with opportunities to promote agricultural sciences at Texas State. This organization provides students with the chance to build on leadership skills and individuality.
The Animal Science Club has three main objectives:
- To promote animal science , especially animal husbandry and animal production, in the Department, College, and University.
- To promote a higher scholastic standard among students of Animal Science.
- To bring about a closer relationship between students, faculty and others engaged in animal science.
Bags for the Ocean

Bags for the Ocean works to reduce the use of plastics by turning old t-shirts into reusable bags and promoting other reusable products. They volunteer in the San Marcos area, host fundraisers, and donate the funds raised to organizations who are currently cleaning up the ocean.
Bobcat Buzz

We are a student organization dedicated to the preservation of honey bees and the sharing of information about apiculture. We currently maintain hives on Texas State campus which give us a true opportunity for hands on learning. Our organization is open to involvement of students from any major. We are a sister organization of Hortus Colere and occasionally work together. We work with the community, local farmer’s market, organize fundraising events and host social events. Please come join the Bobcat Buzz family! Bee Happy!

Texas State Collegiate FFA is a chapter of the CFFA of the State of Texas as well as the National CFFA. Our organization promotes FFA and the agricultural industry, fosters leadership, serves our local community, and connects members to resources and opportunities. Our members show excellence in leadership and a passion for agriculture.
Delta Tau Alpha

Delta Tau Alpha (ΔΤΑ) is a scholastic honor society that recognizes academic achievement among students in the field of agriculture. The purpose of the organization is to promote and recognize scholarship and leadership accomplishments of agricultural students while emphasizing character development, to enhance undergraduate preparation for professional positions, to join with other agricultural student organizations in the promotion of agriculture.

As the Horticulture Club, we cultivate plants, fashion marketing ideas and implement them for sources of revenue. We frequently attend conferences and events within the industry and throughout the state. Our student organization is focused on bringing nature and plant loving people together by establishing a sense of community. By combining the art and science of cultivating plants, we get hands on experience growing and marketing horticulture products. Community is a big part of our club, and we welcome anyone who wants to join us to learn about the vastness of nature’s beauty. Bee keeping is also part of our education and experience through our sister organization Bobcat Buzz.
Pi Alpha Xi

Pi Alpha Xi recognizes junior and senior students with high scholastic achievement who demonstrate a strong interest in horticulture. Graduate students and faculty with an emphasis in horticulture are also eligible. Students must have a minimum overall academic average of B (3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale). Individual chapters may require a higher GPA. Candidates should also show promise for continued activity and commitment to the field of horticulture.

The Pre-Veterinary Society at Texas State is a pre-professional undergraduate student organization designed for anyone seeking a career in Veterinary Medicine. The main purpose of our society is to expose students to a variety of opportunities that will guide them to a better understanding of the field of Veterinary Medicine as well as offer networking opportunities with professionals, involvement in the community, and lifelong friendships.
